Aerospace and defense OEMs work with components where dimensional accuracy and long-term reliability are non-negotiable. Whether the application involves flight control
actuators, hydraulic assemblies, or propulsion support systems, polymer components must perform consistently across a wide range of operating conditions.
Texas Precision Polymers (TexPoly) engineers aerospace polymer components to meet those requirements, building on over 30 years of combined industry experience and more than 4,000 custom designs developed.
Meeting Aerospace Requirements for Precision, Reliability, and Lightweight Performance
Design engineers in aerospace face a unique set of material challenges. Components need to be light enough to support fuel efficiency targets, yet stable enough to hold tight tolerances under thermal cycling, vibration, and pressure loads.
Aerospace polymers address this balance. Compared to metals, high-performance polymer materials offer:
- Lower mass without a proportional reduction in structural performance
- Resistance to hydraulic fluids, fuels, and lubricants
- Low friction coefficients that reduce wear in dynamic assemblies
- Dimensional stability across wide temperature ranges, from cryogenic service to 600 °F/ 316 °C
Our engineering capabilities include custom spring load/deflection calculations, torque requirement evaluations, and material selection analysis for demanding sealing applications. Each component is designed to the customer’s specifications so that it meets application-specific requirements.
We maintain quality through documented inspection procedures, Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL) sampling, and dimensional inspections based on customer requirements. Statistical Process Control (SPC) can be implemented when required for specific production programs.
Mission-Critical Aerospace Applications
Polymer components appear across nearly every major aerospace subsystem. The following sections cover the primary areas where precision-machined plastics and aerospace seals are used.
Flight Control Systems
Actuators, servo valves, and control surface linkages require seals that maintain steady performance throughout repetitive, high-cycle motion. Our spring-energized seals are engineered to hold sealing force across shaft runout conditions, an important factor in actuator reliability for hydraulic flight control circuits.
For rotary and oscillatory motion, our Rotary Lip Seals (500 Series) are designed for extreme-service conditions in similar motion types.
Fuel & Hydraulic Systems
Fuel systems expose seals to chemical loads, pressure variations, and wide temperature swings at the same time. Our aircraft polymer components in PTFE and modified PTFE grades are engineered for chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
Our Rubber Energized Seals (400 Series) provide dynamic and static sealing for higher-pressure hydraulic systems, using O-ring, square-ring, and custom rubber energizers in place of a metallic spring.
Engine & Thermal Management Components
Components near turbine and propulsion systems are subject to sustained high temperatures and rapid thermal cycling. PEEK, carbon fiber-filled PEEK, and PAI-based components are designed to retain their mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
We machine these materials to tight tolerances to ensure dimensional consistency throughout the component’s service interval. For a complete list of available grades, visit our materials page.
Space & Defense Applications
Space launch and defense platforms extend the requirements list to include cryogenic service, high pressure, and chemically aggressive media. Our materials inventory covers unfilled and filled PTFE grades, UHMW-PE, and melt-processible fluoropolymers such as PFA, FEP, and PVDF.
We can work from customer-supplied specifications, match existing material grades, or source specialized polymer compounds to meet specific application requirements.
Advanced Materials for Aerospace Performance & Long-Term Reliability
Material selection determines the service life and reliability of any aerospace polymer component. Our portfolio covers the major material families used in aerospace and defense manufacturing:
- PTFE and modified PTFE. Baseline choices for chemical resistance and low friction.
Glass fiber-, carbon/graphite-, bronze-, and polyimide-filled grades offer different wear and load characteristics, with compression or isostatic molding available. - PEEK and high-performance thermoplastics. Carbon fiber-filled and bearing-grade PEEK are available for demanding applications, along with PAI and PPS.
- Melt-processible fluoropolymers. FEP, ETFE, PCTFE, and PFA are available, offering chemical resistance and processability.
- Elastomers and TPEs. Higher durometer ranges (80 to 95 Shore A) are available.
We also offer specialized polymer material options for demanding applications. If a standard grade does not meet your application’s requirements, we can work with our material suppliers to source or develop a custom compound based on your specifications.
